Have you ever worried about what others think of you? How did it affect your actions or decisions? Share a personal experience and use hypophora at least once in your response. 10/14

Prompt Response: Have you ever struggled with worrying about what others think of you? I know I have struggled a lot when it came to everyone really, from my family to complete strangers. It made me stop and think multiple times if I really should do something, or if I really should say something. All this because I was scared what someone would think of me, this led me to become very shy and reserved.  Summary: Today in class we went over rhetorical d evices like procatalepis, distincio, and simlie.  Reflection: I learned that distinctio is a rhetorical form where the writer elaborates on the definition of a word, to make sure there is no misunderstanding.

Consider the following statement: "We spend more time connecting online but less time connecting in person." Do you agree or disagree with this antithesis? Explain your perspective using personal experiences. Discuss how technology has influenced the way people communicate and build relationships. In your response, include at least one original example of antithesis. 10/12

Prompt Response: We spend hours texting on our phones, but we rarely talk face to face anymore. Technology makes it very easy to talk with people far away at any time. However, screen time can quickly replace the deep moments we share when we sit together in the same room. We have thousands of online followers, yet many struggle with the feeling of being completely alone. Summary: Today in class we went over rhetorical devices like hyperphora and rhetorical questions. Reflection: I learned that a hyperphora is the technique of asking a question, then proceeding to answer it.

Think about a time when you exaggerated something to make a point, tell a story, or get someone's attention. What happened? What did you say? Why did you exaggerate? Looking back, do you think your exaggeration made your message more effective? Explain. 10/12

Prompt Response: Last night I told my mom about an AP Psychology test I had taken 2 weeks ago, and failed. I said something along the lines of  “ the test had like a million questions”, even though  the test only had around forty questions. I exaggerated this because I was frustrated with the amount of questions on the test, compared to the amount of time we were given. Looking back I do think the exaggeration did make my argument stronger, as it made the point I was trying to make more prominent.  Summary: Today in class we went over rhetorical devices like hyperbole, litoties, and understatement.  Reflection: I learned that a litotes is used to emphasize its point by using a word opposite to the condition.

After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay. 9/30

Prompt Response: After reading my feedback on my argumentative essay I can point out multiple things I did well and multiple areas that I need to improve on. Some of the things that I did well were that I provided good evidence and kept a clear line of reasoning. However, I need to improve writing longer and more developed paragraphs and to write a clear thesis. Next time I write an argumentative essay I will focus on developing my commentary more, which would lead to my essay being longer. I will also focus on writing a clear thesis that shows my stance and sets me up for a good essay.  Summary: Today in class we started writing our poems and went over feedback to our argumentative essays.  Reflection: Today I learned that writing a poem is pretty difficult. This is a skill that I will need to work on to fully master it. I also learned how to use the platform Adobe.

Write about a conversation that changed you. 9/29

Prompt Response: One conversation that changed me was one that I had with my older brother regarding my nickname. My mother always wanted to name me Faya, but my dad was against it, so instead  they named me Faru. But because my mother loved the name so much, her and my older siblings always called me Faya as my nickname growing up. I did not know this growing up, and took them calling me Faya as them making fun of me, so every time they would call me Faya I would get mad. Till one day my older brother Ebasa asked me why I hated the name so much, and I said that it was because they were making fun of me, and he told me the origin of my name. And that the reason everyone called me that was because it was a name that my mom loved, and them calling me that was their way of showing they loved me. This conversation changed my perspective on the name, and now everyone calls me Faya.  Summary: Today in class we analysed the poem “ Constantly risking absurdity” and answered questi...

Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product? 9/28

Prompt Response: One time I had to write a poem was in 6th grade during mothers day. The assignment was to write a heartfelt poem to one's mother, writing about all the things that make us love them. In the beginning the writing process was slow, because I did not know how to start the poem. But after a while I realized that I could just write down the things I love about her, and had it as a free verse poem. In the end I was happy with my poem, and my mother loved it. Summary: Today in class we read a poem called “ Constantly risking absurdity".  Reflection: Today I learned that in order for me to fully understand a poem I need to break it up in parts, and read it multiple times. I also learned that annotating on the sides really helps me keep my thoughts about the poem organized.
