Prompt: Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you 8/31

Prompt response:  A phrase that I have begun to say a lot lastly is "I don't care", even though I have always said it, lately I have started to really mean it. Previously if I got anything below a 90% I would feel panicked, but lately I just catch myself not caring. It's not that I don't care about my future, because I do. I just find myself not liking something, someone or not doing well in a subject, and I just couldn't care less. I think that this revels that I'm probably tired, as this is very unlike me. But I don't know what to do about it, and I don't care enough to do anything about it.  Summary:  Today we worked on our vocabulary using a workbook called  Vocabulary for the Collage Bound . We had e different assignments in the workbook about the same 15 words. Reflection:  Today I learnt 15 new words, although I already knew a couple of them. I gained a better understanding of all the new words. I will use this on my AP exam.

With 4.5-week grades posting on September 2, reflect on your experience in AP Language so far. What has been going well for you, what has been challenging, and what is one thing you need to improve moving forward? 8/28

Prompt response:   If I were to reflect on my experience in AP Language so far, I'd say it is going pretty well. I have learnt a bunch of new things that I think are really going to improve my writing abilities, and I am excited to learn more. One thing that I have been struggling with is writing the blogs, as I tend to procrastinate doing them till the last minute. That is what I want to improve going forward, so that I can stop my bad habit, and just do the blog post the day they are assigned.  Summary:  Today in class, we wrote a paragraph arguing our views on whether a "good kill" exists. Reflection:  The prompt made me think a lot because I wasn't sure which side to take. I learned that an argumentative paragraph should have 10 sentences.

Prompt: Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as 8/26

Prompt response:  The last time I made a claim, and someone asked me "why?"  was when we were in class discussing if OJ did or did not kill his ex-partner. I stated that I thought OJ did, and a person in my group asked me why.  I stated that because of his trac record of domestic abuse and the blood sample found at the murder scene, I was convinced that OJ did it. That led to me convincing them to believe me through using evidence.  Summary:  In class today, we debated whether there is such a thing as a "good kill". Reflection:  Today I learned the importance of evidence. And how there is always two sides to a story.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on activities. Select one and tell why. 8/25

Prompt response:  The learning method that I enjoy the most is probably class discussion pared with a worksheet that we all do together. I enjoy this because I stay focused as it is an ongoing discussion with everyone. Instead of me working alone, where I tend to zone out.  This makes sure that I stay focused during the whole lesson, instead of losing valuable class time. Summary:  Today, we worked in groups of three to explore different views on "what it means to own something." We shared our ideas and connected them to our personal experiences and what we've read. Reflection:  I discovered how to link my ideas to my own experiences and the things I've observed or read. This will be useful for writing essays that argue for or against a point.

Describe something you will never fully understand 8/24

Prompt Response: There are a lot of things that I'll never understand, like how airplanes that are so heavy fly so high and how you can talk on the phone with someone on another continent whenever you feel like it. The more I pondered on the prompt the more I released there is probably more that I don't and wont understand, then things I do and will understand. But one of the biggest things for me is black holes. They don't make sense to me at all. What do you mean that a random hole in space could just suck you up? What do you mean that you could spend a couple minutes in a black hole, hundreds of years have passed on earth? The more I find out about them, the more confused I get.  Summary: Today in class we learnt about the format of a body paragraph, and its six overall points, as well as doing an assignment based on that.  Reflection: Something that I learnt is the points of the body paragraph and how to apply it in text. We also learnt how evidence backs up/supports yo...

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people. 8/21

Prompt Response: I'd describe myself as pretty ordinary in every sense. Even the things that make me unique are either boring, or not up to me, like the fact that I have lived in 4 different countries. But one thing that I would say that makes me different from most people is that I don't experience jealousy, and never have. I don't know if there is something wrong with me, or if it's a blessing in disguise. Even if I see someone has something I really really want, I don't feel jealous. It's more like, "oh that's sick for them, I hope I can get that one of them" then any kind of envy or jealousy towards them. And after the fact, I've released that not everyone thinks like that.  Summary: I was not present, I didn't see anything on canvas and didn't have access to AP Classroom. Reflection: I was not present, I didn't see anything on canvas and don't have access to AP Classroom.

How has living in or around Atlanta influenced the way you see your community, culture, or identity? If you were speaking to someone unfamiliar with Atlanta, what would you want them to understand about your community?8/19

Prompt Response: As I, myself have only lived in America, let alone Atlanta for 1 year so I don't feel qualified to be telling people about it. But nevertheless, I'd start with mentioning that it is a very diverse and accepting city. That there are many different people, ethnic groups, religious and political beliefs that coexist pretty harmoniously here. Lastly I'd want them to understand that Atlanta as the city and the community here is very welcoming of all. Which is why I'm so proud of calling it my home! Summary: Today in class we applied SPECE to a speech from Mayor Bottoms during the violent Black Lives Matter riots.  Reflection: Today I learnt how different appeals can be in different parts of a speech, and that by using all the appeals you get a well rounded speech. The speech impacted me in more than one way, I found the speech moving as someone who lives in Atlanta, but I also found it educational from a ELA perspective. I will use this

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work. 8/18

Prompt response: The most creative thing I've ever made was for a school assignment. I created my own future city called Pantea, based on trying to create my own sustainable city. The concept is called sustainable development and was a recuierd assignment that all 8th graders at my school had to do. My city only had apartments to maximize space usage. It was also run by all renewable energy they came from the solar panels on 70% of all apartment roofs, and the rest of the roofs had ecological rooftop systems to help urban cooling and to help wildlife. And that is only some of the things that made my city so creative. My city is probably the most creative thing that I've made because it challenged me to think about the issues in society that are not sustainable, to try to find a solution.   Summary: Today we went through the SPACECAT sheet and the meaning of every letter and how to apply it to a speech by President Trump.  Reflection: In today's lesson we learnt about the...

Describe a time you felt completely lost 8/17

Prompt response: During my lifetime I have felt completely lost multiple different times, in multiple different ways. One of the worst times was when I moved to America and started at Lakeside. Not only were the hallways really hard to navigate, but life in another country was even harder to navigate. As I watched the ticktock’s and Snapchat stories if all my friends from Sweden having fun without me, to then go back to trying to understand trigonometry. I can honestly say I’ve never felt that lost in my life. Lost in the sense that I didn’t know what to do with my life, in a school I hated, a country I was scared of, and a future that was ripped from me the second my feet left Swedish soil. Summery:  Today we worked on finding, writing and identifying different claims based on an article.  Reflection: In class today we worked on reading and comprehending an article, to later on try to find different claims  that fit into specific topics. So that we could write out the cl...

Write about something that you believed as a child 8/14

Prompt response:   Something I really believed in as a child was that the tooth fairy actually existed. When I was a child I used to eat a lot of sugar and used to give my parents a hard time about brushing my teeth. That lead to me losing my teeth earlier than everyone else in my grade, which made me really sad. So to cheer me up my parents always talked about the tooth fairy, and how she would leave me money in exchange for my tooth. My favorite part about losing my teeth was finding a dollar under my pillow where my tooth was the night before, it was magical. All for me to find out from my sister at age 10, that it was my parents putting the money under my pillow all along.  Summary : Today we learnt about the different types of claims and we worked in finishing the work sheet. Reflection : I learnt that every argument needs a claim that is arguable, and that there are different kinds of claims. Something that I will take with me and use in real life is knowing the d...

Think about an argument or disagreement that you wish you could have handled differently. What happened, what was your goal, and what would you do differently now? Use at least one idea from Chapters 1–3 of Thank You for Arguing in your response. 8/12

Prompt response:  One argument I wished ended differently happened recently between me and my dad. My dad was giving me and my cousin a ride to school last week, and I had just bought a new red shirt that happened to show a bit of my stomach. This made my father angry, and we started arguing about it. My goal was to convince him that I have the right to ware whatever I want too, because it’s my body, so it’s my choice. But he responded by saying that as long as I lived under his roof he had a say in the matter, and forced me to go back inside and change.  Something I would have done differently, that was in the book, is that I would have caved in the argument to "give him a point", so that I could have won the argument.  Summary: Today we read 3 chapters of the book Thank You For Arguing, learnt about real life scenarios, and wrote down notes. Reflection: I enjoyed the book as it was interesting and I found it a bit humerus. I found it interesting how different ten...

Think of a time when you tried to persuade someone to agree with you, change their mind, or do something you wanted. What were you trying to persuade them to do or believe? How did you use ethos, pathos, or logos to persuade them? Which appeal was most effective and why? 8/11

The last time I tried to persuade someone to believe me about something was this afternoon when I was at my family friend's birthday party. I was talking to one of the moms of the kids and she stated that acrylic nails, that you get at the salon, last longer then press on nails. And I said that press on nails can last just as long if you apply them right, and we started arguing about it. To convince her I used ethos by showing her my own press on nails, and informing her that they have been on for 3 weeks, and that I've been doing my own nails for the past 3 years. Also by telling her that I've tried acrylic, gel and press on nails, and that press on nails work the best for me as I get the same results for a fraction of the price. In this scenario Ethos was the best rhetorical appeal for the situation, as through proving my credibility and results, she ended up believing me and I ended up winning the argument.  Summary:  Today we presented our "Origin of my name"...

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society? 8/10

I think that as I get older an issue I'll have to debate a lot with both family and friends, but especially in society is the right to for women to get abortions. As this basic right has already been challenged, and sadly been taken away from women in some states in America. And because of that I assume that this issue is something that I'll have to debate a lot, not just for me, but for the women that live in this country. This is not just a debate that I'll have to have with law makers, but with my own family and friends that are against women having the right over their own body. Because for a change to be made, it has to come from the people not just the law makers.  Summary: Today we learnt about rhetorical appeals and arguments. Reflection: Today's class really made me think about how there is an art to arguing. How different arguments work better for different audiences, and it's up too me to use the right one.

3 goals that I want to achieve this year

Hi Im Faya and this is my first blogg post! This year I have a lot more than three goals, but a few goals I want to achieve this year are. Firstly I want to become a better reader this year. Secondly I want to become better at speaking English his year, and get rid of my accent. Lastly I want to choose what profession I want to work with in the future. These three things are really important for me to achieve this year because they are all important building blocks for things that I want to accomplish in  the future.
